Spokane County Fire District No. 12
MEETING MINUTES
For January 14, 2014
I. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Gregg Wernz called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. at the Waverly Town Hall. Commissioners present at the meeting were: Wernz, Tom Pottratz and Ron Tee. Also present was Kynda Browning, Secretary, Don Evans, Fire Chief and Cindy Carlson, EMT Director.
II. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: The minutes from the December 18, 2013, commissioner meeting were presented. Ron Tee made a motion to approve the Decmeber 18, 2013, commissioner meeting minutes as presented. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all commissioners voted yes.
III. PRESENTATION OF PETITIONS, APPLICATIONS, APPEALS, COMMUNICATIONS, ETC: There were none.
IV. REPORTS FROM STAFF:
Don Evans reported:
- presented an application for Chase Janson. Ron Tee made a motion to approve his application pending a good physical. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all council members voted yes.
- Got prices for a 5.5 horsepower generator. Bids received were: Unifire - $1,596.00, Ventry Solutions - $2,712.00 and Feld Fire - $1,827.50. Ron Tee made a motion to approve the bid from Unifire for $1,596.00. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all council members voted yes.
-Call totals for 2013 were 26 EMS calls and 6 fire and miscellaneous calls.
-All the radios from the county were installed except 12-2, they will be doing this soon. He presented a map to the commissioners showing the area the radios will reach. There was discussion concerning the radios.
- Ken Clausen will be retiring at the firemen dinner.
V. OLD BUSINESS:
A. FIREMEN DINNER: The dinner will be held on January 23, 2014 at the Harvester at 6:30 p.m. Kynda Browning sent out letters and Don Evans will get a count for those attending.
VI. NEW BUSINESS:
A. There was discussion about whether we can have a person without a social security number be an EMT.
B. The commissioners discussed firemen qualifying for the pension from Board for Volunteer Firefighters. After discussion, Ron Tee made a motion to change the minimum to qualify for pension through the Board for Volunteer Firefighters to attendance at 10% of the meetings. If the fireman attends six meetings or calls, the district will pay the pension for the firefighter. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all commissioners voted yes. Browning will change the wording in the Policy and Procedure Manual and present it to the commissioners for approval at the February meeting.
VII. PRESENTATION OF VOUCHERS, WARRANTS, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND REPORTS: Payroll voucher numbers 21587 through 21589 totaling $543.73 and voucher numbers 21590 through 21592 totaling $816.81 were presented to the Commissioners for approval. Ron Tee made a motion to approve the vouchers as presented. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all commissioners voted yes.
VIII. ADJOURNMENT: Ron Tee made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:52 p.m. Tom Pottratz seconded the motion; all commissioners voted yes.
